The comfort level that Indian diplomats and political leaders find in interacting with their Vietnamese counterpart is unparalleled. This is because the two nations have a common approach to most of the international developments and have a common principle of multilateralism. Importantly, there are no irritants between the two countries. The mutual trust and appreciation for each other is growing day by day. The recent four-day long visit of Jaishankar External Affairs Minister of India testifies to this dimension. He also underlined how deeply the Vietnamese leaders and people appreciate the Indian community.
Jaishankar was in Vietnam from 15-18 October 2023 to co-chair the important 18th India-Vietnam Joint Commission for Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technological Cooperation meeting. The discussion covered several topics. The talks included measures to enhance trade, business exchanges, economic cooperation in the energy, financial, mineral, information technology, healthcare, agriculture, connectivity, defence and security, advanced technologies, education and training, development cooperation, justice, tourism, think-tank, cultural and people-level exchanges.
